Lines of Thought

The last two weeks have been a blur of busyness. Work has occupied every second of my nine to five and my triathlon training had moved up a notch. On top of things I also decided to try my hand at drawing after many years and entered myself into an exhibition.

The Collective is a beautiful little art gallery, situated at the bottom of Florida Road, snuggly fit next to Ike's Bookstore. A space where artists or up-and-coming artist such as myself can show off their talents without the clinical eyes of art professionals. New exhibitions are launched every two weeks, with most opening nights on a Monday. All artwork is for sale at an affordable price giving the young art collectors/hipsters a chance to cash in on the art buying tradition of One-of-a-kinds.

Lines of Thought was the name of the exhibition I entered myself into, with only a blue ballpoint pen as your medium and an A5 booklet to fill - my creative mind was only to excited (and nervous) to let loose.

If I were to give advice to any apprehensive artists out there, I would tell you to just go ahead and do it. The feeling of finding your creative child again and exposing him/her to the world, is the most exhilarating thing anyone can do. Especially if you sell it all. Eeeeek!

Thank you Amy-Jo for giving my art a new home to live in. I hope it brings smiles to many an admirer :)

Ameezing, fashion, happiness

Did you know that there are blogs out there that are purely for the benefit of a good heart-warming sesh? These three blogs are what I like to call my daily outings from the world of brands and SM (Social Media), little pieces of adventure that occupy my morning coffee. Bookmark, tag them and tab them - these posts of prettiness (and awkwardness and real life dramas and fashion fantasies and creative passion) are to be your best friends. Forever.

1. Ameezing

This is Camilla, and this is her All Things AMEEZING blog. Gosh what I wouldn't be able to accomplish if I didn't have a piece of her life to start off my day. She writes in real time all the way from the bottom of her sometimes aching heart to the tips of her daily doing shoes. Each post is so delicately put together, you'll need to make a cup of tea, call the cat on your lap and savor up every vowel. In my words, amazing.

2. Happiness is...

This may or may not be one of my best friends, and I promise I am not going to be biased but I also have to say that I will be. Dear Fathima, Happiness is… you. Thank you for fulling up those lonely moments of red wine with bits of creative deliciousness to nibble on. From lovelies around the web, (she does know the www backwards), to delectable scribbles of your magic pencil. These are some of the things in life I couldn't life without. Oh, and how could I forget those feline pets you call cats. I love them. I love this blog. ps. Look out for her in this month's SA Fairlady mag. Girl! You got published!

3. The Cherry Blossom Girl

The first time I laid eyes on this fashion fantasy was back in 2009, it was a "I think you might like this" from my dear ex-colleague Miss One Day Box's Megan Douglas. This "I think you might like" turned into "I think I LOVE!", opening my blogging heart to yet another inspirational world wide webber. Alix is my most favorite fashion bloggers to date, it's not just the envy of the items she posses but more the envy of the whimsical manner in which she presents them. To her, fashion becomes a daydream brought to life. A daydream I dream with almost every sip.

Disney Covers

GOSH! Aren't these the coolest magazine covers you have ever seen? If you, like me LOVE Disney and have a tiny fetish of sorts for browsing through magazine covers in the Woolworths queue, then these will be right up your alley. The creative mind of Petite Tiaras did a great job at capturing every essence of a mag cover including the call outs, bravo creative one, bravo!

ps. My favourite is the Seventeen Cover. Oh Ariel! Bless.

A Revelation

This is one of Durban's best kept secrets, most people would shun me for giving away this little piece of lunch-time paradise. But what the hell, I am going to do it anyway.

Revelations is the little food baby of Jamie and Cathy Whittle. A food baby so beautiful that I can guarantee that every lunch time from now until eat-urnity will be a revelation, or Revelation of the Day for that matter. From pasta to panini's with fillings that fill not just your tum but your soul too, it is a wonder that only the Nandi Drive Design District (As I like to call it) know about it.

The parmesan on top for me is that you can see that Jamie loves his job, he learns your name and your number (The number 9 panini is TO-DIE-FOR), and for a location that is so impeccably dressed, it feels like home in mothers kitchen.

So here, is the unveiling of a lunch-time meeting place, that I hope you treat with care and like them on Facebook.

Ps. That handsome man sitting in my picture is that of a dear friend who, if you told him couldn't eat Revelations ( or Revdogs as us younguns called it) ever again, he might bite you. Read his blog too: it's worth a giggle. www.eyelike.co.za (Hi Nev! *Waves*).
